Incorporated in 2005 as a 501(c)(6) organization, we were renamed the Westchester Black Bar Association. Our primary objective remains the furtherance of the public interest by continuing to and advancing the science of jurisprudence.
Our purpose is to: improve the integrity and standards of professionalism in the legal community; improve public confidence in the judicial system and the administration of justice; promote and encourage independence, diversity and inclusion in the judiciary and in the court system; and uphold the promise of equality, fairness, and justice for all under law regardless of race, color, sex, creed, or national origin.
In the early 1980’s, the Lesbian Task Force of Southern Westchester NOW and the Gay Men’s Alliance of the Hudson Valley joined forces to create a safe space to meet. In a large, open space located above a grocery store on what was then known as Grove Street in White Plains, NY (now Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), with WESPAC located across the hall, our center was born in 1983. Since it was an actual loft space, to be discreet, our organization was simply named The LOFT. These are the brave men and women who created Westchester County’s first and only LGBT center, The LOFT Founders.
The 1990’s was a decade of expansion and transformation for The LOFT. In 1993, the center incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization bearing the official name The LOFT: The Lesbian & Gay Community Services Center, Inc.

Our Vision – We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.
Our Mission – PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity
Support – One of primary missions of our local chapter is to offer support for parents, families and friends of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons to understand and accept their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered child, family member or friend. We offer a safe, supportive and confidential place to discuss the issues and challenges of this.
