Since its founding thirteen years ago, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin - Sleep has established itself as a cornerstone organization for sleep physicians serving the Columbus, OH area and beyond. This nonprofit organization emerged from a recognition that sleep disorders, particularly Obstructive Sleep Apnea, disproportionately affect South Asian communities despite lower obesity rates, creating unique clinical and educational needs. AAPIOS operates on a mission to foster meaningful interactions between sleep physicians of Indian origin in the United States and their counterparts in India, creating a bridge for educational, clinical, and cultural exchange. The organization is deeply committed to raising awareness about the importance of good sleep health within Indian communities across both nations. Beyond professional development, AAPIOS celebrates the achievements of its members and works to publicize their contributions to the field of sleep medicine at all levels. Since its founding in 1983, the Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio has served as a cornerstone organization for physicians of Indian origin practicing in Broadview Heights and throughout Northern Ohio. This 501(c) non-profit has grown to represent over 300 multi-specialty physicians united by a shared mission: to use AIPNO's collective resources and knowledge for the health and welfare of the communities it serves. The organization embodies a philosophy of professional excellence combined with deep community commitment. What distinguishes AIPNO is its dual focus on local and global health needs. Locally, the organization has established itself as a compassionate healthcare provider through annual health fairs serving hundreds of residents with free medical services and education. Nationally and internationally, AIPNO has responded to humanitarian crises—from the 2001 September 11 attacks to natural disasters including the 2004 Asian tsunami and hurricanes Katrina and Rita—mobilizing physician volunteers and fundraising efforts to support affected populations. The organization's impact extends to medical education and professional development, with annual recognition ceremonies celebrating physicians who exemplify service to humanity and achievements in research. AIPNO also supports medical camps and surgical services in India, bringing quality healthcare to underserved villages.
