Since arriving in Pittsburgh, PA in 2006, Strong Women Strong Girls has grown from a small initiative into a vital community organization serving thousands of local girls annually. Founded on the belief that every girl and woman possesses inner strengths waiting to be realized, the organization champions the aspirations and potential of young females through carefully designed mentorship experiences. What began with just six college women and thirty elementary school girls has evolved into a comprehensive program now reaching more than 1,250 girls every year at the request of Pittsburgh schools, families, and community leaders.
The heart of Strong Women Strong Girls Pittsburgh lies in its unique three-level mentorship model: professional women mentor college students, who in turn mentor elementary school girls. This approach recognizes that meaningful change happens through authentic relationships and exposure to diverse female role models. Incorporated as a nonprofit in 2004, the organization's vision extends beyond Pittsburgh to inspire every girl and woman to dream boldly and achieve their goals. The organization's rapid expansion reflects the profound need for programs that help girls imagine broader futures and build the confidence to pursue them. Strong Women Strong Girls Pittsburgh stands as a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and community investment in young women's development.
