In addition to the Embassy of France in Washington, DC, which is the headquarters of French diplomacy in the United States, there are ten Consulates General of France in major American cities, one being attached to the Embassy in Washington, DC.
Consular officials are responsible for protecting the interests of French nationals abroad, be they permanent residents or temporary visitors.

The consulate has a role in the protection of our expatriate or transient fellow citizens : social assistance, scholarships, assistance to French transients in difficulty, assistance to incarcerated French people, etc.
A Consul is at the same time a prefect, a mayor, a social worker and a notary, of which he exercises part of the prerogatives abroad. The consulate is the relay of the French administrations with the compatriots residing or passing through abroad who can thus maintain their links with the French administration.
The consulate facilitates the exercise of the rights of citizens expelled from France : civil status, issue of national identity cards and passports, notarial deeds, national service, registration on electoral rolls, voting for national elections, registration in the register French people established outside France,…
It is also up to the consulate to process visa applications from American citizens, when they plan to settle in our country, or from nationals of other nationalities for whom a visa to enter our territory is required.

The Alliance Française de San Antonio is a non-profit organization promoting French culture and language in the Alamo City.
Alliance Francaise de San Antonio is a volunteer-run organization that connects the people of San Antonio to French language and culture. We do this by providing opportunities throughout the year for community members to participate in French classes and cultural activities.
The French Alliance (Alliance Française de Houston) was founded in 1923, and is the center of French language and culture in Houston.
The Alliance Française de Houston, part of a worldwide network founded in Paris in 1883, is a privately funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. There exist today over 800 Alliances in 132 countries. The US network of Alliances Françaises is the largest in the world with 107 Alliances, 73 of which, like Alliance Française de Houston, offer French classes based on the internationally recognized standards of the Alliance Française de Paris. In 2015, the US Alliance network had over 24,000 students for a total of 500,000 worldwide.
The Alliance Française de Houston offers not only comprehensive language instruction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, but also a varied and dynamic cultural experience. Members enjoy French art and photography exhibits, receptions and concerts, and have access to our library , as well as discounts on our French language classes. Each year, the Alliance awards scholarships for study in France to Houston-area university students. We are affiliated with the Alliance Française de Paris, the Fondation Alliance Française, the Federation of Alliance Françaises USA and the US Délégation Générale.
Our mission is to promote, share and enjoy the French language and francophone cultures through classes but also through intellectual and artistic exchanges between the United States and the French speaking world. We encourage friendship and collaboration between French speakers and learners within the North Texas community.
Influential members of the Dallas/Fort Worth community founded l’Alliance Francaise du Nord du Texas in 1972. Famed retailer Stanley Marcus and Texas Instruments director S.T. (Buddy) Harris were among the original board members. Mr. Harris served as the first Honorary French Consul for North Texas. He held the post from 1969 to 1989.
The chapter’s French language school was founded in 1985 and boasts a high student-retention rate. French classes are taught for all age groups and all levels, from beginning French through advanced conversation.
As part of a global network of Alliances, with 100 chapters in the United States and 800 chapters present in 132 countries wolrdwide, we work to fulfill this mission in the greater Dallas area by promoting Francophone culture and cross-cultural dialogue. Our members and friends share a love for the French culture and language. We welcome all conversation levels, and participants often speak English as well as French and other languages. Whether you are a native or fluent French speaker, a student of the language, or an interested non-French speaker, we encourage everyone (children, teens and adults) in the North Texas community to participate in our wide range of French classes and cultural activities offered throughout the year.
