The mission of the AFWA is to enable women in all accounting, finance and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their professions.
The Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance was formed as the American Society of Women Accountants in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. Members include partners in national, regional and local CPA firms, financial officers, controllers, academics, financial analysts and data processing consultants, recent college graduates and women returning to the work force. Although not a requirement for membership, the majority of our members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP.
AFWA is a national association with chapters throughout the United States. Our chapters offer leadership, networking and educational opportunities. AFWA members tap into an extensive knowledge base of accounting and finance professionals with technical expertise to provide solutions for the most complex issues. Our members communicate both virtually and in-person through online discussion forums, national and regional conferences and chapter meetings. Participating in the chapter meetings, seminars, regional & national conferences allow members to maximize the value of their AFWA membership.
The Houston Chapter was formed in 1952 and gives our members the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as we support our community and future accounting and financial professionals. Our chapter members are accounting and financial professionals with a variety of tax, audit, industry and government experience. We have young professionals, mid level professionals and retirees sharing their career experiences. We meet for networking, dinner and continuing professional education as well as participate in fun events.
Masha Pobedinsky is an associate attorney at Hayes & Wilson, PLLC, specializing in estate planning, probate administration, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. She strives to bring compassionate legal support to clients navigating complex life transitions.
Jill started Yaziji Law in 2006. Her goal was, and still is, to provide legal and ethical services to the wrongfully injured. Having worked at large law firms prior to establishing her own, she had gone to trials all over Texas and won major settlements and verdicts for her clients. With this large-scale vision, she started her firm serving one client at a time. She has been litigating cases in Texas for nearly two decades.
Jill has been named to Houstonia Top Attorney List in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The leading attorney ranking website, Avvo.com rates Jill an outstanding 10/10. She is listed mong the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 list. Her clients have publicly thanked her for her legal skills and success in delivering results for them. Shadi is an Iranian-American attorney from Houston, Texas. She practiced criminal and juvenile law for five years and then became a teacher and educational administrator to help people like her clients make better choices before coming back to law. She loves her Iranian roots and wants to serve the community in areas of estate planning, wills, trusts, guardianships, general contracts, artist contracts and family law. She is unique as an attorney because she handles cases with great care, delivers the best possible results and builds solid relationships with her clients based on trust.
