We are the Northern Virginia guild of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA). Chartered in 2007, ours was the 8th of more than 100 current guilds to be chartered during and after a remarkable era of spiritual renewal and rebirth in the Church. At the time, St. Pope John Paul the Great dubbed it the “New Springtime of Evangelization” as he taught us new ways to discover Christ personally. It was a time when Catholics began to form a more dynamic personal relationship with a loving God, share our enthusiasm for our faith, and live our faith in all aspects of life, including our profession. We grew spiritually from the fruits of this way of living then, as we continue to do so today.
Living our faith in this rapidly evolving, complex world can be challenging. The CMA and its local guilds help us to meet these challenges by fostering spiritual growth which is based in the teachings of the Catholic Church, and by helping us to form a spiritual network for each other.
Our mission is to imitate the Divine Healer as we care for each patient, and become a network of support for each other in both our personal and professional lives.

The Polish American Congress was founded for the express purpose of representing the concerns of Americans of Polish heritage before the government of the United States. The leaders of the Polish American community, concerned about developments in Poland as the end of World War II approached, met in a founding convention on March 4, 1944. Polish Americans were concerned that Poland be restored to the independence it had enjoyed before World War II.
The Polish American Congress is a National Umbrella Organization, representing at least 10 million Americans of Polish descent and origin. Its membership is comprised of fraternal, educational, veteran, religious, cultural, social, business, political organizations with national scope, and 43 PAC Divisions and Chapters in 23 states.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Division was founded in 1974 by a group of American-born and immigrant Polish-Americans under the leadership of Col. Casimir I. Lenard, to facilitate the engagement of Polish-Americans in the unique opportunities for helping Polonia and Poland from the National Capital Area. The original territory defined as the "Metropolitan Area" was:
...the District of Columbia, the State of Virginia, and those counties or municipalities of the State of Maryland contiguous to the District of Columbia...
Our mission is to empower feminists, who are the majority, and to win equality for women at the decision-making tables of the state, nation, and the world. The Feminist Majority promotes non-discrimination on the basis of sex, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion, ethnicity, age, marital status, nation of origin, size or disability. The purpose of Feminist Majority is to promote equality for women and men, non-violence, reproductive health, peace, social justice and economic development and to enhance feminist participation in public policy. Feminist Majority supports workers’ collective bargaining, pay equity, and end of sweatshops. We encourage programs directed at the preservation of the environment.
The name Feminist Majority Foundation is a consciousness-raiser, inspired by a 1986 Newsweek/Gallup public opinion poll that showed the majority of women (56%) in the United States self-identified as feminists. Most polls since then reveal that this majority continues with over two-thirds of young women self-identifying as feminists. Most men, especially young men, view themselves as supporters of the women’s rights movement. 71% believe the movement has improved their lives. Today, some 45% of men self-identify as feminists.
The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), which was founded in 1987, is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically. Our organization believes that feminists of all genders are the majority, but this majority must be empowered.
Led by FMF President Eleanor Smeal, our research and action programs focus on advancing the legal, social and political equality of women with men, countering the backlash to women’s advancement, and recruiting and training young feminists to encourage future leadership for the feminist movement in the United States.
To carry out these aims, FMF engages in research and public policy development, public education programs, grassroots organizing projects, leadership training and development programs, and participates in and organizes forums on issues of women’s equality and empowerment. Our sister organization, the Feminist Majority, engages in lobbying and other direct political action, pursuing equality through legislative avenues.
