Since 1992, Black Youth Helpline has been rooted in a powerful community-driven mission to support productive futures for Canadian children and youth. Established by youth volunteers in Winnipeg, Manitoba and expanded to Ontario in 2003, the organization now serves communities nationwide from its Toronto, ON base. The Black Youth Helpline model was created by youth for youth, emerging from a grassroots project where young people recognized the need for culturally appropriate adult support and built a service around that vision. Today, the organization continues to honor this heritage by allowing the voices of participants who contact the helpline to shape its programs and services. Black Youth Helpline is grounded in three core values: respect for the inherent worth of each person, education as a foundation for positive citizenship, and access to optimal health including barrier-free mental health care. The organization's commitment extends beyond crisis intervention to focus on primary prevention—upstream interventions that help youth grow into productive adults before problems reach critical levels. Working closely with families, parents, youth, schools, and community organizations across Toronto, ON and beyond, Black Youth Helpline addresses the interconnected challenges facing young people today. Since its establishment, Black Health Alliance has grown into a vital force for change in Toronto, ON, working to transform health outcomes for Black communities across Canada. Founded on the principle that Black communities must be centered in defining the challenges affecting their health and well-being, the organization operates as a community-led registered charity guided by core values of Africentricity, social justice, partnership, and catalytic leadership. Founded in 2013 as a survivor-led initiative in Toronto, Ontario, Black Women in Motion emerged from a York University research project and has grown into a vital community organization dedicated to empowering and celebrating Black and African-Caribbean diasporic women. The organization operates on the principle of 'For Us, By Us,' amplifying the voices, perspectives, and wisdom of Black survivors while boldly investing in Black lives and futures. Rooted in the belief that collective care and healing are essential, Black Women in Motion recognizes the interconnectedness of community struggles and the personal responsibility members have to care for one another. The organization's founding vision, articulated by Founder and Executive Director Monica Samuel, centers on ensuring the well-being, prosperity, and advancement of Black survivors who have endured profound challenges yet remain poignant, prolific, and radiant. Operating with core values of intersectionality, collaboration, and curiosity, Black Women in Motion acknowledges the complex, overlapping barriers faced by marginalized Black survivors and centers their needs in all prevention, intervention, and advocacy efforts.
