The Austrian Consulate General in Los Angeles opened in 1969. The first Consul General, Dr. Thomas Klestil, was the later Federal President of Austria. Since then this mission has developed into a key hub for deepening ties between Austria and California and the entire Western USA. Its jurisdiction comprises 16 US States and the Pacific Islands under US administration. Honorary Consulates in nine major US cities are supporting the team of the Consulate General in its efforts.
The Austrian-American Council of North America is a not-for-profit organization which fosters good will and better understanding between the people of Austria and the United States. It sponsors and co-sponsors many Austrian cultural events such as concerts, recitals and exhibits, Austrian artists and the arts, and supports many humanitarian causes world-wide.
