The Embassy of Italy in Washington DC is the largest Italian bilateral embassy worldwide.
Based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations dated April 18, 1961 the functions of an Embassy are, among others:
- To represent the sending State in the receiving State;
- To protect in the receiving State the interests of the sending State and of its nationals, within the limits permitted by international law;
- To negotiate with the Government of the receiving State;
- To ascertain by all lawful means conditions and developments in the receiving State, and reporting thereon to the Government of the sending State;
- To promote friendly relations between the sending State and the receiving State, and developing their economic, cultural and scientific relations.
The Embassy coordinates a network of 9 Consulates, 5 Cultural Institutes, 5 Italian Trade Agency offices, and 2 Italian Tourist Board offices. The staff of the embassy based in various offices is composed of personnel from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and from other Italian ministries and public entities.
Through its Consular section, the Embassy of Italy in Washington also offers a host of consular services to Italian and non-Italian citizens living within its jurisdiction.

Founded in 2000, the Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society (AMHS) develops and promotes the cultural, social and educational heritage of the Italian regions Abruzzo and Molise and of Italy.
AMHS works closely with other Italian American organizations in the Washington, D.C. area to promote unity and a common goal – preserving our Italian heritage. The Society has been honored and very fortunate to work closely with the Embassy of Italy and to have its support throughout the years.

Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center, Inc.
Casa Italiana is the heart and soul of the Italian and Italian American Community in Washington, DC. From Italian language classes, to cultural events, wine tastings and food festivals, to the newly inaugurated Italian American Museum of Washington, DC (IAMDC), Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center Inc. promotes the Italian culture and preserves Italian American traditions.
Casa Italiana originally opened its doors on March 22, 1981. Scalabrinian Fr. Caesar Donanzan, who was instrumental in establishing the project and leading its funding, envisioned a center for the Italian-American community to provide services and opportunities for socializing and presenting the best of Italian culture in the Nation's Capital. The first significant activity at Casa Italiana was the establishment of the "Scuola Italiana" or Casa Italiana Language School. Holy Rosary finally also had a place to host large social events for the community.
Our mission is to promote and preserve the Italian and Italian American heritage and culture in the Washington DC area.

National Italian American Foundation
Based in Washington, D.C., NIAF’s mission is to serve as a resource for the Italian American Community; to preserve the Italian American heritage and culture; to promote and inspire a positive image and legacy of Italian Americans; and to strengthen and empower ties between the United States and Italy.
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is a nationwide organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is the largest and most loyal representative of the more than 20 million Italian American citizens living in the United States. NIAF was founded in 1975 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with no political affiliations.
NIAF’s two most important purposes are to encourage Italian Americans to continue keeping their culturally rich heritage and traditions alive and present, and to ensure that the entire community never forgets the great contribution that Italians have made to the history and progress of the United States. To this end, the Foundation actively collaborates with the United States Congress and the White House on all major issues affecting Italian Americans.
To celebrate the great legacy that unites us and all the objectives achieved so far, NIAF organizes its Anniversary Gala every October in Washington, D.C., which is usually attended by the President of the United States; figureheads from the political, financial and cultural arenas; illustrious Italian Americans; and about 1,200 guests from the United States and Italy.
On this occasion, the Foundation awards honors to eminent Italian and Italian American personalities who have distinguished themselves in their professional or civic role. In the past, NIAF has honored personalities such as Antonin Scalia, who was the first Italian American judge of the United States Supreme Court; Frank Sinatra; Joe Di Maggio; Lee Iacocca; Liza Minnelli; Luciano Pavarotti; and Sophia Loren.
