The duties of Polish Honorary Consuls include: protection of the rights and interests of the Republic of Poland and its citizens, fostering the development of friendly relations and cooperation between Poland and the U.S., fostering the bonds between Poland and Polish Americans, promoting the Polish economy, science, culture and language, and providing consular assistance.
The honorary consulates augment Finland’s network of diplomatic missions, made up of embassies, consulate generals, consulates and other liaison offices. An honorary consulate is headed by an honorary consul. Honorary consuls are private individuals who take care of their tasks on a part-time basis without remuneration.
Within the scope of a specific geographical area, an honorary consul monitors the rights of Finns and foreigners permanently residing in Finland. He or she provides advice and guidance for distressed Finnish citizens and foreigners permanently residing in Finland who are temporarily abroad, assisting them in their contacts with local authorities or the nearest Finnish embassy or consulate. Certain types of notarized certificates can be acquired through an honorary consul. Honorary consuls do not accept passport applications nor do they handle matters pertaining to visas or residence permits. Honorary consuls cannot serve as attorneys in judicial proceedings or as legal advisers.
Together with diplomatic missions, an honorary consul promotes economic and cultural relations between Finland and the country in question, and takes part in strengthening Finland’s image abroad. An honorary consul can advise Finnish companies, for instance, in obtaining information about local business culture and in finding cooperation partners.

Established in 1992, the LPN was initially convened as an ad hoc group of organizations and residents who came together to share information and resources around critical issues facing the relatively new Latino community. As more and more community members and service agencies began participating in the Network and discussing the challenges facing this population, it became evident that a more formal structure was needed to coordinate and enhance the services being provided to the Latino community in the Baltimore Metropolitan Region.
In 2005 the Latino Providers Network (LPN) successfully obtained 501(c)3 tax-exempt status and formalized itself as an incorporated non-profit organization dedicated, through service coordination and expansion, to meeting the human and social service needs of Baltimore’s burgeoning Latino community.
In addition to functioning as a central focus point for networking among Latino providers, the LPN has recently expanded the scope of its work to become a leading agency in providing technical assistance and capacity building to member agencies and organizations. In this role, the LPN continues to accurately represent the Latino population in relevant public policy forums and endeavors to promote appropriate systemic reforms.
The Latino Providers Network manages and coordinates a membership community base umbrella organization with over 70 organizations and 200 individual members that provide direct services to the Latino community in the Baltimore Metropolitan Region in the areas of health, education, immigration, business, employment, arts & culture.
