The Lebanese started arriving in NC in the late 1800s. With them, they brought their culture, music, food, traditions, and faith. They actively participated in building NC to where it is today, whether in business, education, religious institutions, the arts, or philanthropy.
In the 1950s, the community petitioned the Lebanese government to establish a consulate in NC to facilitate approval of official paperwork needed for transactions between NC and Lebanon. In July 1956, an official decree from Lebanon established an honorary consulate in Goldsboro, NC which was then a major hub for the Lebanese community. Since then, a succession of honorary consuls have taken on the task of assisting the community. The center of activity has gradually shifted to the capital Raleigh, and as such, the current honorary consulate is established in the RTP area of NC.
