Your insights will help shape a comprehensive report on the state of Black Pittsburgh—to be presented at the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent in April 2025.

Our goal and mission is to “stomp the divide” between Black tech workers and to fundamentally influence and effect change on an industry that has historically not sought parity with respect to Black workers. Our intent is to level the playing field through training, education, networking, and mentorship with the support of allies, partners, sponsors, and most importantly our global members.

At Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, the Black Law Students Association represents an important community of students dedicated to supporting one another through their legal education and beyond. This student-led organization embodies the values of solidarity, mentorship, and collective success, creating spaces where Black law students can build meaningful relationships with peers who understand their experiences and aspirations. The association serves as a cultural and professional home within the law school, fostering a sense of belonging and community that enhances the educational experience for all members. The organization's mission centers on empowerment and advocacy, recognizing that diverse perspectives strengthen the legal profession and improve access to justice. Through intentional programming and relationship-building, the Duquesne Black Law Students Association creates opportunities for members to connect with one another, share resources, and celebrate their achievements. The community extends beyond the classroom, providing emotional support, practical guidance, and encouragement during the challenging journey of law school. Located in Pittsburgh's vibrant academic community, the association contributes to Duquesne University's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Members engage in meaningful conversations about representation in the legal field, social justice issues, and the role lawyers play in their communities. The organization recognizes that success in law school is not solely measured by grades but also by the relationships built, the support received, and the sense of purpose developed. Kline School of Law, dedicated to supporting Black law students as they build their identities and careers in the legal field. Founded on the principle that every student deserves to feel deeply valued and heard, BLSA creates spaces of belonging where students can thrive academically, professionally, and personally throughout their law school journey. At its core, BLSA's mission centers on affirming student identities while empowering their dreams and professional aspirations. The organization recognizes that Black students often navigate legal spaces where they have historically been overlooked or excluded, and BLSA works intentionally to change that narrative. By providing steady, unwavering support and fostering an environment of care and consistency, the association helps students stand confidently in institutions and careers where their voices and perspectives are essential. Based in Philadelphia, where the legal community is known for its richness and quality, BLSA positions itself as a bridge between law students, practicing attorneys, and the broader Black community. The organization's commitment extends beyond individual student success to include sustained engagement with Black attorneys and community leaders who can mentor and guide the next generation of legal professionals. Through its executive leadership and faculty partnerships, BLSA cultivates an unwavering sense of belonging that transforms how students experience law school. The association believes that when Black students are tended to with purpose and consistency, they rise to transform the legal profession and the communities they serve, building a legacy that honors excellence, resilience, and hope for generations to come.
