Founded in 1987 by a dedicated group of Seattle-area attorneys, the Asian Bar Association of Washington (ABAW) has evolved from humble beginnings into a vibrant professional community representing over 500 Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law students, and legal professionals across the state. ABAW's mission centers on amplifying the voice of Asian Pacific American legal professionals in Washington while fostering justice, equity, and opportunity for the communities they serve.
What distinguishes ABAW is its deep commitment to both professional excellence and meaningful community impact. The organization goes beyond traditional networking by actively engaging in judicial evaluation processes, monitoring legislative developments that affect the Asian Pacific American community, and advocating for equal opportunity throughout Washington's legal system. Members benefit from mentorship programs, professional development initiatives, and access to a supportive network of peers navigating the legal profession.
ABAW's community-focused approach is evident through its operation of free legal clinics in Seattle's International District and Rainier Valley neighborhoods, directly serving vulnerable populations with critical legal assistance. The association invests in future legal professionals through law student scholarships and maintains active committees dedicated to pro bono service, mentorship, and community engagement. By combining professional advancement opportunities with grassroots community service, ABAW demonstrates that the legal profession can be both a rewarding career and a powerful force for positive social change in Washington State.
Rooted in over a century of civil rights advocacy, the Chinese American Citizen Alliance Seattle chapter has been dedicated to serving the community since its establishment in 2011. As a charter member of a historic national organization, this Seattle, Washington-based group carries forward a legacy of protecting civil rights while building stronger connections among Chinese Americans. The organization's mission centers on three core pillars: advancing civil rights protections, nurturing the next generation through youth leadership programs, and providing meaningful community service that directly impacts local families and neighborhoods. What sets the Seattle chapter apart is its hands-on approach to community building—from organizing youth tours of local Chinese businesses to creating pathways for young people to engage with the political process and community leaders. Members actively demonstrate their commitment through seasonal food distribution efforts, substantial holiday charitable initiatives, and collaborative cultural celebrations that benefit the broader Asian American community. By connecting Chinese Americans across the country while remaining deeply invested in local Seattle issues, the organization bridges national advocacy with neighborhood-level support, creating opportunities for members to develop leadership skills while strengthening the fabric of their community.
Since its formation in 1995, the Greater Seattle Chapter of Organization of Chinese Americans Asian Pacific American Advocates has served as a cornerstone of civic engagement and community empowerment in Seattle, WA and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Rooted in the organization's founding vision of 1973 to unite Chinese Americans into a unified representative voice, the Greater Seattle Chapter has evolved into a comprehensive social justice organization dedicated to advancing the well-being of Asian Pacific American communities.
What sets OCA Greater Seattle apart is its deep commitment to both political activism and community service. The organization has demonstrated unwavering dedication to civil rights causes—from supporting landmark cases defending due process rights to championing marriage equality legislation in Washington State. Members consistently engage in meaningful community service, building connections and fostering solidarity across diverse neighborhoods and cultural groups throughout the region.
OCA Greater Seattle represents a membership base that includes young professionals, college students, and longtime community members, creating a multigenerational network of advocates committed to social change. Operating as a volunteer-led, nonpartisan nonprofit, the organization reflects the values and priorities of the communities it serves. The chapter's recognition as Chapter of the Year multiple times demonstrates the respect and trust it has earned from both its national organization and the local Seattle, WA community it calls home.
