The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA, Inc.), is a nonprofit membership association dedicated to bridging the opportunity gap for black professionals in the accounting, finance and related business professions. Representing more than 200,000 black professionals in these fields, NABA advances people, careers, and the mission by providing education, resources, and meaningful career connections to both professional and student members, fulfilling the principle of our motto: Lifting As We Climb.
The Pittsburgh Professional Chapter goals and objectives are designed to promote/develop professional skills of members; to encourage/assist minority students entering the accounting and finance profession; and to encourage cooperative relationships w/ other professionals.
The mission of the NABA Philadelphia Chapter is to address the professional needs of its members and to build leaders that shape the future of the accounting and finance profession with an unfaltering commitment to inspire the same in their successors. The NABA Philadelphia Chapter, like all other chapters across the nation, are 100% volunteer lead. All of our board members have full time careers and commit to running this organization before, sometimes during, and after work to ensure our mission of "Lifting As We Climb" is achieved each and every day. Although there are no paid staff for the chapter, we take our roles in this organization very passionately and work with members and corporate partners to achieve in-kind goals.
Chapter leadership creates and supports programming for professional members, student members, and high school students in our community.
The Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania (MSEP) is the Greater Philadelphia affiliate of the National Medical Association (NMA), the collective voice of Black physicians and the leading force for parity and justice in medicine and the elimination of disparities in health. The MSEP is a 501(c) (3) professional organization representing the interests of the Philadelphia area's Black physicians and the patients they serve. The MSEP was founded in 1961 with a mission that aligns with that of our national organization, which is to create opportunities for African-Americans to fully participate in the practice of medicine.
The objectives of the MSEP are the promotion of the science and art of medicine and the betterment of public health. More specifically:
1. Raise the standards of the medical profession and of medical education.
2. Stimulate favorable relationships among all physicians.
3. Nurture the growth and diffusion of medical knowledge and the prompt universal delivery of this knowledge to all peoples by means of an adequate health care delivery system.
4. Stimulate the education of the public concerning all matters affecting the public health.
5. Sponsor the enactment of just medical laws.
6. Eliminate religious and racial discrimination and segregation from the Philadelphia area and American medical institutions by means of an effective organization of the medical profession within our city and its surroundings.
The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. helps address the professional needs and development of Black lawyers in the City of Philadelphia and surrounding areas through programs, seminars, cultural events, and publications.
Established in 1950, The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc.’s purpose, then and now, has been to address the professional needs and development of Black lawyers in the City of Philadelphia through programs such as seminars, cultural events and publications. The work of the organization continues years later with ongoing efforts to support its mission.
Since the early years of its establishment, the Barristers’ Association has also recognized the need, and its obligation, to be a pro-active advocate for the cause against injustice. In 1973, members of the Barristers’ Association served on the Liacouras Commission, which investigated ways to eliminate racial discrimination in bar admission procedures.
Today, The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. continues to provide a very important and unique role for its members by providing a forum for discussion and dissemination of information of matters of particular interest to Black attorneys and the Philadelphia Black community at large.
As an affiliate of the National Bar Association, the Barristers’ Association is an active participant in a community of practicing Black lawyers, judges and law students in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The Barristers’ Association’s structure consists of an Executive Committee and an Advisory Board. The Executive Committee is responsible for the operation of the organization and is composed of elected officers and appointed members. The Advisory Board, which is made up of distinguished members of the legal profession, provides advice and counsel to the Executive Committee.
Instituted in 1987 as a charitable nonprofit 501( c )(3) organization (and United Way Agency Code 885156), 100 Black Men Of Western PA, Inc. (the “100”) is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the African American community and educational opportunities for at-risk African-American youth in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. The specific focus of the 100 Black Men of Western PA, Inc. is mentoring, and in this capacity we have successfully mentored over 850 students in the Greater Pittsburgh Area for more than twenty eight years. 100 Black Men of Western PA, Inc. is an integral part of 100 Black Men of America, Inc., which is a broad based, international organization with over 120 chapters in 30 States, including the District of Columbia, Kingston Jamaica, Birmingham United Kingdom and Gore Island Senegal. The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. attained national recognition when it received the prestigious US President’s Service Award.
Our mission is to combine our talents and resources to help solve some of the problems that affect the African American community in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
The main focus of 100 Black Men of Western PA, Inc. is to provide mentoring to at risk African American youth from the greater Pittsburgh area. The 100 Black Men of Western PA, Inc. has been successful in changing the lives of many youths through the 100 Black Men Mentorship Program. This mentoring program was established in 1991 and has mentored over 10,000 students with 90% of our students going on to post secondary institutions.
Attorney Michael A. Walker, is the founder of The Walker Firm. Attorney Walker is a sought after litigator with one of the fastest growing firms in the area. As a seasoned litigator, Attorney Walker has spent hundreds of hours in court all over the Commonwealth primarily serving Montgomery, Philadelphia, Chester, Bucks and Berks County. Attorney Walker has the honor of being one of the top 100 African American Litigators awarded by the National Black Lawyers Association.
If you have been discriminated against, Attorney Walker has fought some of the largest companies and won verdicts and settlements. If you are injured by someone else’s negligence you want a litigator that insurance companies would rather not see. If your liberty is at stake and the Commonwealth has charged you with a crime you want someone that will take it to trial and win.
Pittsburgh has consistently been ranked as one of the nation’s most livable cities. But livable for who? For many Black residents, the reality tells a different story. What do these rankings overlook about the disparities in housing, education, and healthcare?
