Our story began in 1988 when CIAO was founded in Williamsburg, Virginia by a group of Italian-Americans eager to share the rich heritage of their ancestral land with new friends. Some of the founders were born in Italy; others are the children of Italian immigrants. Together, they brought the spirit of the old country and America’s many “Little Italys” to Coastal Virginia’s Italophiles.
Today, CIAO comprises members of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds, united by love for the amazing gifts of Italian life: food, wine, art, music, theatre, and a desire to cultivate friendships.

The purpose of the scholarships is to assist deserving young persons of Italian-American descent in furthering their educational pursuits.
